Bibby,
After sliding under your bed at 5 o'clock in the morning for the second day in a row to get your favorite pappy that you call "white pappy," I decided it was time to tell him goodbye. We have been talking about giving up your pacifier for several weeks now and it has really started to make your lips chapped (probably because it is a newborn size and you suck it so hard I can hear you outside your room) so I knew it was time. Well, I thought I knew.
I decided that we would pack them up and take them to the hospital to give to the new babies. You are some what of a visual child and I knew that if you could actually see all of the new babies it would help. I was so incredibly proud of you when I pitched the idea. You really seemed to be compassionate for those new lives that needed a pappy and you also kept talking about how sad you were going to be but those babies needed them.
At the hospital you had such excitement about you and knew you were doing a good deed. I rang the doorbell to the nursery and gave the nurse a big wink and explained to her that we had something for the new babies. You were so big handing her your favorite "white pappy" first. I really got a little emotional you looked like such a big kid.
We then headed to Walmart and I let you pick out several prizes to display on your dresser hoping that you would be so anxious to open them that you would go right to sleep. By this point it is nap time and since we had been up since the break of dawn I knew you would go for it. WRONG!!!!! You never napped. Just sat in your bed and sang and played.
Bed time comes and it all hits the fan. We had played with Mary Frances and Katie during dinner and I knew that you were completely exhausted by this point. WRONG AGAIN! You managed to completely come unglued and pitch the most pitiful fit I have ever seen. Some quotes from the hour-and-a-half in bed that I could have heard across the street:
"Pappy, please come back. You've left me and now I'm all alone."
"Take it back, take all the prizes back to the store, just bring me my pappy."
"I'm not a big girl yet, I'm just a little girl."
"Daddy and my pappy are both gone."
I made the crucial mistake of calling Mammy during the breakdown. She and Papa were in their car and at Target on a pappy hunt and to our house in minutes. I told them as they walked through the door that they were now officially responsible for the bill from your braces. Honestly, I was so glad to see them. You licked your new "white pappy" and acted like it was horrible. Papa explained that it was a "big girl" pappy and before they could pull out of the driveway you were asleep.
I still love you big girl and I always will, chapped lips, crooked teeth and all.
